Department of Culture and Society invites applications for a position as research assistant in East European Studies. It is a full time position (37 hours weekly), limited to the period from 15th of August 2013 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to 30th of June 2014.

The Position
We are interested in a graduate with a strong competence in Russian Culture and Literature. The autumn term begins 1th of September and the required teaching in the autumn is two courses in Russian Culture and student supervision in Academic Analysis and Presentation.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a documented Master's Degree in Russian or similar subjects. The applicant is also expected to:

-to be well-founded in Russian language
-to document qualifications in Russian Culture and Literature
-to have teaching experience with seminar classes and innovative teaching
-to have experience with student supervision
-to have strong communicative oral and written skills
-to have experience with or an interest in interdisciplinary cooperation.

The applicant is also expected to contribute actively to the various disciplines and the department's academic environment. We value daily attendance and a supportive work environment for the staff as well as students.

Eastern European Studies
The Eastern European Studies Programme is concerned with the history, society, culture and languages of the countries in Europe that were under communist rule until 1989/91. The focus of the programme is primarily on Russia and the post-Soviet space, on the Czech Republic and Hungary in East Central Europe and on the successor states of the former Yugoslavia in South East Europe. In both teaching and research, great importance is attached to solid language skills, this being a necessary prerequisite for a deep and reflective understanding of the history and contemporary conditions of these countries and language areas. The academic staff applies a range of methodological approaches from fields including history, literary theory, culture studies, sociology, philology and linguistics.

Research Environment
Eastern European Studies at Aarhus University is the only environment in Denmark for integrated research on Russian history, literature and culture. Eastern European Studies are also recognized nationally for its unique research skills in South East European history and culture, Czech history and culture, and Hungarian language and culture. The research environment is interdisciplinary and characterised by intense cooperation with related academic environments both within Aarhus University and internationally.

Degree Programmes
The Eastern European Studies Programme offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Eastern European studies based on either Russian, Czech, Hungarian or Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian as well as a Danish-language supplementary subject in Russian and an English-language supplementary subject in Eastern European Studies.

The Department of Culture and Society
The focus of the teaching and research activities of the Department of Culture and Society is the interplay of culture and society in time and space:

- from the classical research fields of theology and the humanities to applied social research
- through history from the earliest times to issues of topical interest
- from familiar Danish forms of culture to other and very different worlds
- from local issues to global challenges.

The department encompasses a range of strong research and degree programmes, which in dialogue with each other and with society work to develop innovative ways to solve issues of topical or perennial interest. It comprises a wide range of programmes, which makes it possible to approach cultural and social conditions from many different angles: Anthropology (incl. Human Security), Archaeology (Prehistoric, Medieval, and Renaissance), Asian Studies (Chinese, Japanese/South-East Asian Studies, Arab and Islamic Studies), Philosophy and the History of Ideas, History, and Classical Studies (Classical Archaeology and Classical Philology), Area Studies Europe (incl. International Studies, and Eastern European Studies), the Study of Religion, and Theology.

Formalities and salary range
The Faculty of Science refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
